Welcome New Baby!

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby!

A new baby changes everything!
And no matter how difficult
- or easy -
it may have been to get this far;
everyone agrees that it was worth every effort!
Even if things didn’t quite turn out the way you had planned…
Nobody ever starts out
trying to have a baby
who has Down syndrome.
And nobody is ever perfectly okay when that happens.
You are about to experience
a roller coaster ride
of emotion and uncertainty
- like every other parent…
but with the added challenges created by the simple addition
of something as tiny
as a chromosome.
We know.
We’ve been where you are.
And we want to help.

  1. I am willing to go and talk to new parents. Or assist them on the phone. I took the ‘course’ that was offered through the association but I could use a bit of a refresher and some new baby packages. Can someone let me know if they need another parent volunteer? Thanks!

    • Penni, Thanks for that – I’ll add you to our list of parents to reach out. We are going to bring this up at our next exec – we need a more structured process for connecting with new parents. I’ll let everyone know you’re keen to help. J

  2. Hi,
My son is now 14 weeks old. He’s been in and out of Hospital since birth, scheduled for heart surgery sometime in September. Just wondering what’s available to him after his surgery, what’s our next move. This baby is number 5, so he has lots of stimulation, love and support at home. Now I’m looking for some guidance for in the community.

    • Tracy, Did you ever hear from our new-parent volunteer? I had forwarded your info on, and wanted to follow up (admittedly belatedly, sorry!) to see if someone got into contact with you. Can you let me know? If so, I wanted to offer any additional help I could. If not, you have my sincerest apologies, and I want to make it right. Let me know if you can. Jason Allen President DSAH
