Info Bin

We frequently receive communications – mail, email, phone -
that may or may not be of use to all of our members.
Until now, we really didn’t know what to do with all of this information
- forwarding all of it to all of you would completely abuse our email privileges!
But in the interest of providing you with as much information as possible,
so that you decide what is and isn’t relevant to you,
this page will include pretty much everything we receive.
Minus the obvious spam…
We haven’t checked any of this out.
We don’t recommend or endorse
any of the products, services, or people listed here.

It’s just a collection of all of the info we receive.
There’s some good stuff here.
But, as with all things, buyer beware!

Hamilton & District Extend-A-Family has been providing recreational support, respite, and friendship to children with special needs and their families for over 3 decades. Employing an Executive Director, two half-time Family Coordinators, and at part-time ASD/Recreation Coordinator, this registered non-profit organization is currently supporting over 140 families. Extend-A-Family believes that children with special needs require opportunities to expand their base of social experience while their parents may benefit from occasional parenting respite, and shares and promotes the needs and gifts of these families within our community.

The mandate of the agency is to match families who have children with disabilities with ‘Host’ families, ‘Buddies,’ and recreation support volunteers in their community. Although the organization is partially funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the donations of corporations and individuals in the community make many of the programs possible.

From Graeme S. Treeby, with The Special Needs Planning Group, has contacted the DSAH with Income Tax Information for families affected by disabilities. The Tax Tips for the 2010 Tax Yearattachment is designed to inform people of the tax issues affecting people with disabilities and their families.

Camp Canterbury Hills, Looking for Support (Rec’d by email.)
Sending this to the DSAH in the hopes that you can alert people to this.  There may be some in the membership who would be in a position to support the camp.  All funds are being held in trust until the decision is made.  If the camp closes I’m told money donated will be returned.
[The writer's daughter] has attended Canterbury Hills with support from Reach for the Rainbow for over 15 years since she was five.  First as a day camper, later as a residential camper  and now as a Junior staff counsellor for the past two years.  It is the high point of her summers and also ours as it is the week [my husband] and I are able to get away, just the two of us.  It is a very good investment for the future of our children.  It would be a tremendous shame if it were to close.
Thanks for any publicity you can give to this within the DSAH and through any other methods you may have.
