The Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton is proud to include our new D.A.D.S. group as part of our organization.
Initiated in 2010 by DSAH Dad Mike McCarthy, our group of active Dads is growing steadily. Whether it’s a man-outing for eats, support for a new Dad, or throwing a great summer BBQ for our member families, D.A.D.S. provides an opportunity for fathers of children with Down syndrome to connect and share in a way they wouldn’t otherwise have. Only a Dad knows what a Dad goes through in their journey through Down syndrome. And because, typically, it’s the Moms who become the Down syndrome experts, the DSAH recognizes that a Dad’s experience is vastly different simply by virtue of being a man.
Whether you’re a Dad Advocating for Down Syndrome, Accepting Down Syndrome, Adjusting to Down Syndrome, or Avoiding Down Syndrome, our D.A.D.S. are a welcoming group who are helping each other navigate their way through their unexpected change of plans.
